Supplies: An open mind and a glass of water

Time: 10 Min- 2 hours

Why Engage It?

Jesus often sought out hospitality while traveling or when visiting cities, sometimes from strangers. We have the privilege of being a host to those around us through everyday interactions, whether that be a driveway conversation with a neighbor or a gourmet dinner prepared with great care! “Soul hospitality” is simply having space within ourselves to listen to others - listen to them into existence, you might say.

As stated, this can happen over a glass of water in the driveway or through inviting others to join us for a meal, simple or elegant. We often worry about our home, our cooking, or not being as cool as the ‘others’, but when it comes down to it, most people greatly appreciate the invitation to just be part of your life for a period of time and to have someone listen and take interest in what is going on.

How to Practice It

Simple ideas: Have someone join you for coffee in your garden or deck or driveway; invite folks for dessert only; have a meal catered for several families or couples and make it easy on yourself; have a potluck and ask people to contribute toward a meal; go for a walk with somebody. The options are limitless and the rewards are amazing!
