GENEROSITY

Why Engage It?

We probably all feel stretched in too many directions, with no extra energy left to spend on anyone or anything else. Life can feel frantic and out of control much of the time. So when and how are we supposed to have time to live generously? Being rooted in Christ promises much. Ephesians 3:16 says, “I (Paul) pray that out of his glorious, unlimited resources God will give you mighty inner strength through his Holy Spirit.”

When we’re tired and running on empty, remember we serve a God of limitlessness. God’s economy is based on lavish love.  And when we practice generosity as Christ-followers, no matter how big or small, materially or emotionally, we can experience gratitude in our own lives.  Gratitude then has a way of leading to more compassion and generosity. It’s a beautiful, unending circle!

So whether we give of our time, money, talents, gifts, or friendship, we are assured that the Holy Spirit will empower and strengthen us as we respond to the gentle nudging of God toward a heart of generosity.

How to Practice It

Think of one thing you will intentionally be more generous with: time, money, resources, relationships, etc., and look for an opportunity to give of what you have for the sake of another.
